Adolescent Medicine

Adolescents Are Not Big Children

The team at Parkway Family Physicians understands adolescents' need for confidentiality and trust . . . we listen and we observe to provide high-quality, comprehensive, acute and preventive care to young people ages 12 to 21. We are very proud of the number of our young Parkway patients who have gone on to work in the medical field and those who have become physicians themselves.
Services

At Parkway Family Physicians we also educate and empower young people to take ownership of their health care and the life decisions they make. We support their growth and development while respecting their individuality to prepare them for successful transition to adult health care.

We consider ourselves skilled in adolescent medicine, our team is comfortable in attending to their physical, emotional and social needs. We provide consultation, diagnosis and treatment for health issues that commonly come up during these years and provide care and treatment for young people with long-lasting conditions.

Just because a child has become a teenager does not mean he or she needs medical care any less frequently than when he or she was younger. At Parkway, we focus on the total health of our patients. Our services include:
  • Annual Health Exams
  • Hearing & Vision Screening
  • Sports Physical Exams
  • School & College Physical Exams
  • Management Of Chronic Illness
  • Social & Emotional Issues
In addition to helping teens with medical concerns, we like to spend part of each visit discussing social and emotional issues that may affect the young patient's well-being. Topics often discussed at visits are:
  • Supporting Strength & Resilience
  • Diet & Nutrition
  • School & Job Preparation & Achievement
  • Coping With Stress
  • Building Independence
  • Concerns About Growth & Development
  • Sexuality & Risk Taking
  • Substance Abuse
  • Family Relationships

Patient Testimonials

“The Parkway staff is cheerful, nice, and polite.  They smile, remember your name, and they seem to be the type of people you’d actually want to spend time with (unlike some places, where it seems the staff has been sucking pickles).  Patients are treated with respect and that means a lot to me.”
